“We used the Tara Estate pet boarding service for our dog for a week in March and had a terrible experience. The first red flag was us not being allowed to see the kennel/area our dog would be kept, they insisted on taking our dog in themselves. I had asked if it was okay to leave a bag of comfort items for our dog to have in his kennel (blanket, a toy, his own bowl), and they said that would be absolutely fine and took the bag with him. When we picked our dog up it was very clear none of this stuff was ever given to our dog, which is not a big deal but I just don’t understand why they said it was fine if they had no intention of giving it to our dog. More disturbingly, when we picked our dog up and they walked him out he was bleeding from his paws. The staff were acting as if they didn’t notice but it was very obvious, he left a trail of blood over the footpath. When we pointed it out they said oh he must have scratched a paw on the walk out because he was definitely fine when we just got him from his kennel. This was absolute bullsh*t because he was bleeding from 3 paws. He was very skittish and would only let me and my husband check his paws, he didn’t want the staff anywhere near him. After having a look the bleeding was coming from his nails being so filed down, most likely from scratching at concrete. The vet nurse said there were no reports of him pacing or scratching but she wouldn’t know because she hadn’t been down to the kennels. Which is very interesting since a daily health check is said to be included in the price of the boarding service. The vet nurse said she would go and get something to help stop the bleeding and after waiting 5-10 minutes she came back and said they actually didn’t have anything that could help. Our dog also smelt strongly of urine and had visibly lost weight. It took several weeks for our dog’s anxiety to calm down after his stay at Tara estate. I’m absolutely disgusted by the way our dog was treated here and would recommend everyone stay clear of this place.”
