“I'm a little torn as to a 4 or 5 star review. The room was very, very nice and clean. We opted for including their breakfasts and one dinner. The dinner was downright outstanding though it wouldn't hurt to include a side dish. What we ordered and paid for was excellent. For this situation in a wine region, we'd like for them to offer the option of a corkage fee so we can bring and drink our favorite wines found in area wine tastings. I understand they'd like to sell their Luna wines in particular which I believe the same owners own. But it wasn't our favorite. (Your taste buds may differ.) The breakfasts had appropriate options but the hot items weren't even close to hot. Staff was nice enough to microwave when needed but that shouldn't be necessary. Neat to improve the heating pans. That all said, I'll give the benefit of the doubt and hit that 5th star mainly on the strength of the room.”

“If you want to sleep before midnight, don’t bother staying here. The camp has rules that between 10pm - 7:30am is to be completely quiet, but no one is there to enforce them so people just stay up drinking and yelling until as late as they like. For our stay it was after midnight every night. Add to that the cars, radios and drunks in the surrounding area and it’s a complete waste of hundreds of dollars. We went home early and won’t ever be back.”

“Location was good, and an awesome lake view, however the room was a utter disgrace to say the least, shower door was extremely filthy, finger prints everywhere, and old food under the bed. Room was initially booked for 2 people but added a third, was charged extra but the room wasn't accommodating for the 3rd person. Won't be staying at this facility again not will I ever be recommending, the price is absolutely ridiculous given its level of hygiene.”

“We had a really lovely night at Terrace Downs. Our room was spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable with nice linen. The view from the balcony across the golf course, Rakaia gorge and towards Mt Hutt was amazing. Dinner and dessert were wonderful, great to see local produce on the menu. The restaurant was busy with every table occupied but the service was great. Breakfast buffet was delicious with a fresh and quality selection of food. We’ll be back!”

“Booked a Queen Charlotte track trek through Natural Encounter Walks and the first night they booked us here. Not only was the property delightful- beautiful and comfortable rooms overlooking the endeavor inlet, lots of fun water activities like kayaks and paddle boards, and a prime location- but the restaurant had phenomenal food to boot. In the two and a half months we have been in New Zealand, we have had only one other meal on par with our meal here. Highly recommend the oysters, the mussels and garlic bread, and the pork belly- and don’t forget dessert!”

“We loved the hot pools and lovely location. Lovely hosts, nice to be able to borrow DVDs and bikes, we had a great time. The one thing I would recommend is to bring your own water, as the tap water was disgusting and tasted like dirt/mould. We immediately went to the supermarket and bought water for our stay. Plus if you are intending on sleeping someone in the lounge, the exit sign is extremely bright. A monopoly box lid took care of that for us!”

“Very close to everything in Whakatane . We were amazed at how well run and top notch the property is. When we were confused ( Americans) about how to operate different machines the management helped us out immediately! Very clean and had fully equipped kitchen, washer, dryer and dishwasher plus supplies to operate them. The restaurant and store next door made it very easy in case we needed anything. We will definitely be back!”

“This place is an absolute joke. We had three rooms booked the night before our wedding and stayed at the Apex with family. We were told there were spas in each room, upon entering the rooms, found out the spas were not working, the doors to the spas did not lock and the decking surrounding the spas was rotted and broken. If a small child had of gone out there, they would have been extremely hurt. The rooms were not up to standard. In one of the beds there was hair, the bathrooms were filthy. In one room there was one towel for three people. There was leftover ice cream in one of the fridges, frozen milk, no tea towels. The lady is a compulsive liar, stating that she is the only one working here but we saw another lady and two cleaners. We told her of our complaints and asked for a partial refund, she made up this massive story and blackmailed us stating that she would not give a refund until a good review was put onto the internet. What a joke!! DO NOT STAY AT APEX ON FENTON!!!!!!”
