“Lovely hotel, staff were generally very nice and helpful; however it is a bit dated and the air con could do with upgrading. Did notice the owner frequently micromanaging and barking orders at the staff which did bring the atmosphere down at times. The pool is amazing and the breakfast is great. Get some cocktails by the pool if you go, it was the best part! The restaurant dinner was not value for money. And is a 15 minute taxi from anything else in Syracuse.”

“Nice location very close to Taormina, shuttle provided. The hotel is colonial-like with a very nice garden, nice pool and most importantly very clean, no smells. The rooms are big enough, clean, and have a nice view from our balcony just to forget about the railway that stands between the hotel and the beach, but not intrusive at all. The bathrooms are very clean and big, nothing to complain about. The only drawbacks are breakfast - the same every day, but not bad, and the events they organize due to break off the silence that usually is.... a very good experience that I recommend. PS the sea is very clean with a beautiful azzurro color, just the beach is not with the best sand (read pebbles...), but clean and sunbeds provided”

“I think first things first about this hotel. This is a complex i think of around 3 or 4 buildings. The main building being on the picture which hosts reception and the dining area as well as i think a few rooms. There are other buildings but believe me when I say this. They are no more than 100/200m away from the main building. It is all very close together so when you read another review in here what they are saying is absolutely not true and in fact really unfair on the hotel. All locations are less than a minute walk to the pool. There are 2 pools. One near the main building and another lower down to the left hand side. Both are accessible and absolutely delightful to be around. They both get sun all day and the beds and service at the pool are great. Right now that's out of the way, I genuinely don't know if I can say anything other than how exceptional this hotel is. We stayed for 10 days and it was an absolute dream. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning. As soon as you walk through reception and out into the dining area you see the pool which is gorgeous. The hotel itself is really clean and smells amazing. The breakfast is lovely consisting of hot, cold and continental foods. The pistachio crema and wildflower honey and mini donuts were exceptionally good. The lunch menu is great, fresh salads, sandwiches and pastas. drinks menu is varied and the cocktails are great. The dining menu is superb, real fine dining experience. Lovely food and atmosphere. Our room was just by the pool in the main building and it was cleaned every day and was extremely comfortable. The wifi is super fast. What sets this hotel apart was the staff, they absolutely could not do enough for us. My partner is pregnant in her first trimester and was suffering with intense morning sickness. One night she just wanted some plain pasta with sauce as this is all she could manage. Not a problem. We had an issue with a curtain, they came and sorted it within the hour. I just cannot fault them in any way. Really really enjoyed our stay here and the staff just made it so much better so thank you. One last thing if you are staying here, get up early and go up to the roof top terrace to watch the sunrise. Glorious. Now, people have said that the hotel is out of the way and it is a little, but it really depends what you want from a holiday. If all you want to do is relax, read books, eat nice food and wind down then this hotel is perfect it has everything you need. But if you want to explore and see more of Sicily then i would recommend hiring a car. But watch out, Italian drivers are crazy. Overall this hotel was exceptional and I genuinely wouldn't let one or 2 bad reviews put you off because they have significantly over-exaggerated. Some suggestions for the hotel: The rooftop terrace is significantly underused. I would get a small bar there as the view is amazing especially in the evening. And in the morning, i would offer activities out. Maybe some sunrise yoga or meditation. Thanks for looking after us, we really enjoyed it.”

“We have stayed 4 nights in this hotel, the building is newly opened and quiet. Breakfast selection is good, unfortunately if you seat outside during breakfast you could hear the noise from the staff talking loud from the back of the wall, not really pleasant. Rooms are beautiful, semi modern, a bit disappointed by housekeeping service which didn't change the coffe cups used the they before and room wasn't very well cleaned (some stains in the pillow cases and bed sheets) there is no water offered in the room, since is a 4 stars, some water complimentary will be appreciated. Hotel offers a shuttle service to the beach very often during the day and you can enjoy their sunbeds and the sea. Spa is beautiful and well maintained, we had couple of massage, very good. The restaurant is very good! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Overall a good relaxing experience.”

The feature of being picked up and dropped off at the ferry with your luggage at no additional cost is fantastic. The hotel provides a shuttle throughout the day to center town, which is phenomenal no additional charge.The rooms and the general care of the hotel are spotless, immaculately clean. “Some aspects of Mari Del Sud are lovely. In others very disappointing. Not really a 4 Star Hotel, 3 Star would be more appropriate. The rooms are good, though some things (like rusty guttering with big holes) let them down in aesthetic terms. Also our bed sheets were not changed in 2 weeks. The gardens are lovely, the location is great. Breakfast was poor, for choice and quality. The restaurant was overpriced compared to the competition in the nearby area. There was no children's menu, so you get adult portions. Staff generally were great, Craig in particular was exceptional and a real asset! Overall the biggest disappointment was what was said on the website and what we discovered. This is not set up for children! The playground was dirty and uncared for. The jacuzzi areas in the pool didn't work. The pool bar rarely opened, but when it was very expensive. We have 2 young children (4 and 5), there was no childcare of any sort. So for us as parents we had a change of scene but were not really able to relax at all. So if you are a couple with no children it is somewhere to consider, but if you have children personally I would choose somewhere that has had more thought and investment applied for the whole family.”
