“The courtyard of this hotel is exceptionally beautiful, showcasing meticulous maintenance. The front desk staff speaks Chinese. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The only downside is that the food is not very tasty; surprisingly, there was bacon and eggs for breakfast. Hoping to temporarily step away from Western cuisine and indulge in authentic Japanese dishes, we ended up with cold pasta sauce resembling Italian cuisine. The food was disappointing, but the hotel itself is lovely.”

“Looks great on the pictures, but definitely not for the price you pay for. We booked a deluxe room, and it was on the road side facing the parking. Not big traffic for sure, but you don't feel very private and in the nature. The room looks not well maintained with walls paintings falling. The food is well prepared and tasty, but the serving pace is far too fast, a six courses French style cuisine served within one hour from seating(!) what a pity.”

“Nice place to stay and enjoy the hot spring, the food, and the view. The English speaking staff was especially nice and greet us during our breakfast. It took around 10 minutes by the K line bus from the Hakone train station. Will visit again when it’s autumn season 🍁”

“While I enjoyed the experience, I do not think that the service was proportional to the price at least from a foreigner’s standpoint. Maybe the intended audience is a older generation gauging from the attitude of the hotel workers. They did try their best to translate and explain menu items but that was about it. It felt very cold and transactional. Traveling as a couple, we were carrying large backpacks and we had to carry it ourselves up and down the driveway from the bus stop. After our sit down check in and long travel to get to the place, we were not offered the option to have them deliver our bags to the room as we saw other guests were given. We were given chocolate gifts as we left. We booked a 3rd floor room with in room onsen bath. Room and amenities were great. One of the robes had a make up stain inside.”

“The room has an open-air bath, which is great. Relax in the middle of the night while drinking beer. I can't really do something like this. The food is delicious and the rooms are clean. There are fewer rooms, fewer people, it's not noisy, and I think the service is attentive. It's a little expensive, but I think it's more than worth it.”

“My family and I rented two rooms for 4 adults and a baby. The first rooms that we checked into had old, stained carpets. In my room, the sink by the toilet was stained from use (not that big of a deal) and the toilet seat felt like it was coming off the toilet. The vanity in the bath area was clean, and the bath itself seemed updated. However, the tile in the vanity area looked like it had blood spots from where a woman had had her period and they just didn't wipe it up. I used a wet tissue to check if it was stained or dirty, and it came up with little effort meaning it just hadn't been cleaned. In the second room, the floor was similar and the vanity area next to the bath also had some blood colored spots. Beds in both rooms seemed clean enough, the cushions in the tatami area were old and worn with stains, and the fabric on the western chairs seemed to be coming up. I couldn't deal with the blood spots, so I requested to change rooms or for them to come clean both rooms. They were able to find two rooms and said I could look at one of them first. I went to check the first room and it was like walking into a different hotel. Updated everything - pretty blue floors, nice shower, big TV, clean bedding and floors everywhere. I immediately agreed and we moved our things. I gave the key of the room I'd checked to two of the adults in my group and my husband, baby, and I went into the second room. The second room looked great at first glance until we saw that it hadn't been properly cleaned in some time. There were about half-a-dozen large (about 2-3cm each) spiders hanging out by the ceiling in various corners (the room I checked didn't have this issue). The spiders started to move once we entered the room, so my husband took care of them. We don't like hurting spiders, but it was just too much... spent the rest of the trip being worried about disturbing the curtains lest more spiders appear. There were numerous webs around the room that we requested be cleaned while we were out the second day. Thankfully, they did a proper clean of the room after that and we could even walk around without slippers the second day! The breakfast buffet was alright. Decent bread, standard spread. Private baths were disappointing, but I guess alright. Not as nice as we expected. Public baths were the same. Could use some cleaning and updating but overall, standard old hotel I guess. Would have been happy with everything if we hadn't paid 25000yen per person for two nights. If it was half the price then the clean room with the blue floors and no spiders would have been worth it since it is located near Hakone. Given the room change, lack of cleaning, and spiders, very disappointed. Would not recommend.”

“Today, October 29th, I'm staying at the hotel...but I really want to go home (tears). It's highly rated, and the other Tateyama toss slabs were very good, so I had high hopes for Gyokusara. The food is tasteless anyway. No, it's not that I can't eat it, but regular food tastes better. When it comes to children's meals, it's all frozen foods. My 6th grade daughter looked like she was going to cry, so I shared half of my meal with her... Frozen takoyaki, frozen hamburgers, frozen croquettes, frozen fried dumplings (with the insides still unthawed), retort curry (very cheap, around 70 yen). And above all, the white rice was so sticky that it looked like porridge. You're definitely using the wrong amount of water. I don't usually splurge, but it doesn't suit my family's taste at all, and for those of you who are raving about how delicious it is...I wonder what kind of food you usually eat. I thought the room was spacious, but the bed was really cheap. pipe? It feels hard and springy, and I think it's hundreds of times better than the one at home. A bath is out of the question...I know it's getting old, but it feels like a guesthouse. The water area is dirty, and the changing room is the same as the pool, so it's chaotic with lots of pool customers and floats. I annoyed my husband by saying that my level was so low that I wanted to go home. I think it's best not to stay overnight if you have a certain annual income or above. You don't want to eat bad food on a hard bed in a dirtier room than you would at home, right? By the way, I'm not against frozen foods, I just don't want to eat frozen foods when I travel. I really feel sorry for the child.”

“The room is too small and the bed is foldable to become a sofa. The bed is not comfortable to sleep. It is like sleeping a sofa. And there is no desk for person to work. If it is coming for business, this is not quite suitable. The rubbish bin in the toilet is too small like a decoration. But the room is clean and modern. The bathroom area is almost the half of the room area. No bottle water is provided.”

“Really cool traditional inn. Everything was spectacular. The only reason why I give it a 4 isbecause the temperature in the rooms were WAY too hot. They have family style indoor and outdoor onsen which was really amazing. We were the only family there so we were able to use it 24/7. The food was really nicely prepared. Drinks were on the pricier side from what I was told. All in all really nice experience. Staff were extremely pleasant too.”
