“We stayed for 7 nights in a sea view club room. The resort is located in a beautifully rural part of the island, it’s secluded and peaceful - here you can truly relax. The beach is beautiful and clean and you enjoy true paradise views across the ocean. However the water is not clear enough for snorkeling and the fish are very scared of people due to spear fishing. The location also means there are no restaurants or shops at an easy distance from the hotel, so we had all our meals at location. The resort grounds are expansive and are set on a cliff side, but golf buggies take where you need to go if you’re not fond of walking up and down the hillside. We really enjoyed the tranquil setting of the resort, however due to the secludedness we were a bit disappointed with the food. We had all our meals onsite and unfortunately none of the food was great. Everything was mediocre or good at best, and quite often under seasoned and/or overcooked. Breakfast was similarly good but nothing to write home about, but I do give them kudos for consistently getting the cooking of the poached eggs right. Highly recommend the Air Bar for cocktails around sunset - the drinks I had there were some of the best I’ve had ever. The resort is well maintained and beautiful. From the room itself you can tell its age, mainly from the fact that the plumbing makes an awful lot of noise when you flush the toilet for a good while after, and the aircon was also very loud even on the lowest setting. Room itself was well appointed and spacious, and we enjoyed the generous balcony overlooking the ocean. Lastly service at the resort is extremely attentive and mostly impeccable - this is really where the hotel shines. We were very well taken care of by all of the staff at every interaction and everyone seemed very genuinely kind and attentive and we were taken well care of when I got sick during our stay. We had some issues at breakfast from time to time (tardiness or getting our order wrong) but nothing that could not be overcome. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay and this is a great hideaway for anyone looking to truly relax and be well taken care of - but personally would expect considerable improvements on the food before considering a return visit.”

Every staff person you will meet is so kind, gracious, friendly, eager to help and, importantly, very good at their jobs! We had a fantastic concierge (Jack) that seemed to anticipate our every need and assisted us like we were his only guests! The breakfast staff was also memorably excellent, but whether at Zest or Azure for dinner or getting a kayak at the beach, everyone we interacted was really superb! Next the views - in a word, breathtaking. You will look, turn away, and seconds later, again marvel at the beauty! Of course, it helps you will have your own cliffside villa with decently sized pool (not a bathtub "plunge" pool). Have sunset drinks at the bar across from Zest. The gym is really good, if that's your thing. And, as good as the massage treatments are, the dry sauna and showers in the spa are an experience unto themselves.”

“At first glance this place is absolutely stunning, after a ten days you start to see a couple flaws. Staff and service 10/10, the view 10/10 - we got the two bedroom villa. The breakfast is a 3/10 at best and the sands restaurant 5/10, with saffron for 7/10. They need to hire a full time host at breakfast with two guys on the juice and coffee station with the influx of guests bombarding the restaurant. I think they are about a decade behind on plating. The sad little omelettes come with a ketchup squiggle and a carrot every morning. I would recommend eating just outside the hotel. The food is literally one tenth of the price and much much better. Again, staff and view/villas are great. Owner needs to put some attention to detail and do a full food overhaul.”

“In general, a beautiful hotel/resort. We've stayed in the Boat House, which was spacious and well decorated. One of the most adventures hotel rooms I've stayed so far. Unfortunately, there were some minor flaws like (1) the smell in the toilet next to the bathroom, coming from the A/C,l made using this toilet unbearable. (2) The plug-in and the night stand for the person sleeping next to the entrance are missing. (3) Some of the pillows on the outside have already started moulding. The overall environment in the resort was beautiful and was spreading vacation vibes. A lot of trees and plants were well taken care of. The pool, which was connecting all the rooms, is amazing to swim in. The beach was clean and there is enough space for all guests. The food and drinks in the restaurant are quite overpriced for what you get. For example, a coconut was more than 200 baht. The breakfast buffet has a good selection of Western food like bread, sausage, cereals. They are also offering Boat noodles. Unfortunately not in the traditional taste but rather in a very mild taste compared to what you get at local places. Unfortunately, the breakfast selection doesn't change throughout the days, so you might get boring of the selection if you stay too long. The staff is extremely friendly and supportive, having always a smile on the face.”

“What a remarkable place, absolutly stunning from the entrance to the lounge/pool area. I was amazed by what the Hotel had to offer and it was truly a memorable experience I can't wait to repeat in the future. The staff we're incredibly friendly and made little of while our rooms were getting prepared. We were able to lounge by the pool until we could check in where I promptly fell asleep and got a sensation sun tan for an Irish man. The pool was like something out of a movie looking out to sea with a bar right in pool for ease of chilling and continued merriment. The room was very spacious and I loved the his and hers toiletries treat bags that assisted us on our short stay. There are so many amenities to this hotel, the obvious pool, a spa, a gym the restaurant and my personal favourite the wood stove oven pizza. The meals were fantastic and I will remember fondly the low light even dinner surrounded by candlelight looking out to the sea once more where the wait staff took care of our every need. If you want a quiet relaxing stay in Koh Samui, I couldn't recommend Explorar more. Just a sensation place. Can't wait to get back.”

“Broadly a nice stay however the staff made our visit feel more transactional than the magic experience we received from other hotels and resorts in Thailand. On arrival there was little enthusiasm or welcoming. Staff around the rest rarely greeted or said hello. These little things are what makes other resorts feel special. Our room was excellent, everything we could need was there and during the rain we were delighted to stay inside! It was lovely to hear children through the day and the flow of water on the pools. Breakfast was excellent. A wide range of options with kid friendly items included. There's nothing better than having fresh fruit and a coffee overlooking the sea. The prices for massages are strangely high, go across the road for normal prices! The location is down the beach or road to the night village and many lovely restaurants and bars. If you don't want to walk a drive is a couple of minutes.”

This boutique hotel is stunning, set in a great location, offers regular shuttles to popular areas and most importantly, the staff are AMAZING. The General Manager (i forgot her name) and Kaew in the restaurant were particularly brilliant and sourced me some coffee beans because I liked the coffee in the restaurant so much. The food in the restaurant was also great and catered for vegetarian food (even if it was off menu or at breakfast). I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks Rocky's team!”

“Just finished a wonderful four night stay at this superb hotel! Our first time visiting Koh Samui and I am so happy we chose to stay at the Kimpton. The facade of the hotel is gorgeous, dark wood with the most beautiful landscaped garden i have seen in a hotel! The room was very big and clean with a huge balcony with a very comfy sofa. I love how the pool looks like it flows into the ocean, and the pool area is incredible with pool table, table tennis and lots of lounge chairs. Shout out to Naomi who was very helpful and friendly when we checked in and throughout our stay. Breakfast was delicious, only suggestion would be to include Vegemite for the Australian’s with the different spreads for toast as I asked but they didn’t have. Also free bottled water by the pool would be great. Every night for turndown service they gave us a note and different treats which was a very sweet touch. We ate at Fish House a few times and enjoyed it however one night we had dinner there and it took 45 minutes for our drinks (two cocktails) to arrive, 1 hr for entree and then another 45 min wait for our mains. The food was worth the wait but if i was starving I would not be happy waiting that long. Overall fantastic stay, we will definitely be back!! Thank you Kimpton Kitalay!”

“We had the best stay in Thailand! Staff were all very accommodating and spoke very good English. The food and drinks were great, so much to choose from with veggie and vegan options too! We didn’t know you could hire towels for free which was super handy! A big bonus that breakfast is on from 7am-6pm!! “Really enjoyed the stay at this hotel. The location is great because it’s close enough to walk to the shops and bars but far enough away not to hear any of the noise. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Good size pool with plenty of sun beds around pool and on the beach. The restaurant area is a great spot looking out at the sea. The noise of the AC units in all the rooms was very loud, I think they need to be serviced. We had to turn it off at night because it was too loud. In our room there was a door into the next door room- It was locked but it offered very little sound protection and we could hear the neighbours a lot. The room also smelled a bit damp. The breakfast is okay, could use some more variety especially for vegetation option. They could also do with an additional coffee machine as there is always a queue and it frequently stopped working. Overall good value for money and would consider staying again.”
