“Nice location very close to Taormina, shuttle provided. The hotel is colonial-like with a very nice garden, nice pool and most importantly very clean, no smells. The rooms are big enough, clean, and have a nice view from our balcony just to forget about the railway that stands between the hotel and the beach, but not intrusive at all. The bathrooms are very clean and big, nothing to complain about. The only drawbacks are breakfast - the same every day, but not bad, and the events they organize due to break off the silence that usually is.... a very good experience that I recommend. PS the sea is very clean with a beautiful azzurro color, just the beach is not with the best sand (read pebbles...), but clean and sunbeds provided”

The apartments are functional and clean (they would just need some new hangers in the cupboards!), it is adjacent to an amazing beach, the pool is large and well mantained. The restaurant is very good too (but there is fixed menu only). It was the quietest place we have ever been during high season, there were people, but it never felt crowded or excessively noisy.”

“Some aspects of Mari Del Sud are lovely. In others very disappointing. Not really a 4 Star Hotel, 3 Star would be more appropriate. The rooms are good, though some things (like rusty guttering with big holes) let them down in aesthetic terms. Also our bed sheets were not changed in 2 weeks. The gardens are lovely, the location is great. Breakfast was poor, for choice and quality. The restaurant was overpriced compared to the competition in the nearby area. There was no children's menu, so you get adult portions. Staff generally were great, Craig in particular was exceptional and a real asset! Overall the biggest disappointment was what was said on the website and what we discovered. This is not set up for children! The playground was dirty and uncared for. The jacuzzi areas in the pool didn't work. The pool bar rarely opened, but when it was very expensive. We have 2 young children (4 and 5), there was no childcare of any sort. So for us as parents we had a change of scene but were not really able to relax at all. So if you are a couple with no children it is somewhere to consider, but if you have children personally I would choose somewhere that has had more thought and investment applied for the whole family.”

“RUINED HOLIDAY. Very upset for that cause I booked this hotel for my mum’s birthday through the local travel agency Avventurisole who highly recommend it as the best one in Lipari (and was charged the most). This is not at all a luxury hotel and not a 4* superior level. Room very dirty with dirty bed sheets, the cleaning I doesn’t change towels and not not bed linen, mattress very uncomfortable and like camp bed, there is no coffee machine in the room, no even boiler for tea, no amenities (not even bathrobe, slipper, body cream). Staff is very unpleasant and not friendly. Food very poor and bad quality, horrible breakfast with all not fresh food (even the fruits not fresh). We had also mentioned in advance to the agency that we had food requirements (vegan and gluten free), and the hotel was not able to serve us a proper meal. We complained a lot with the agency but they didn’t care, indeed with an aggressive and unprofessional behavior the agency said it was the hotel fault and that we are “complaining guests”. The hotel recognized us a refund, however the agency didn’t want to apologize or worry about any assistance, the agency also gave us troubles delaying to transfer to us the refund, again accusing that was fault of the hotel and we are “bad clients”. Definitely I don’t advise to book this hotel if you are expecting luxury standards, and for sure not through the agency Avventurisole, god knows which deals they must have to get so upset for a worthy complaint.”

“Room was clean and breakfast was decent. Shambolic amneties for a five/four star resort. Not a single iron in the hotel and only option was an 8 euro laundry service (for a single shirt) which you'll only get back the next day. Had to get creative. Shower head didn't function, AC has to be turned on by reception and had to walk down for each request as phone didn't work. Staff were nice, friendly and extremely helpful. Also shuttle service to taormina was a nice touch.”

“We arrived late in the evening, checked in and had dinner. The Restaurant is great, staff there were nice. The rooms were old (think “fashionable in the summer of ‘65”) but clean and with a working air conditioning. The beds were comfortable. You can hear the next door neighbours, but fortunately they were not too loud. The shower doors required some tough love to close, shampoo was available in stingily low volumes, given to you in plastic satchels. Waking up and going to the breakfast was a whole experience. You walk down a staircase, descending into thick indoor cigarette smoke (again, probably once fashionable in the summer of ‘65). The lacklustre breakfast buffet spanned some sloppy bacon, half-empty water bottles with plastic cups that remind of urine sampling. The waiter makes you feel that any request (“1 espresso”) is one too many. Upon returning to my table with some fruit that was left over, I was greeted by a little worm who had gotten to my apricot before me. I stuck to bread. Breakfast is from 8-10, which they tell you. What they don’t is that they stop re-filling food from 9:15 onwards. Instead, they will start blasting music in the adjacent pool area. The hotel will prove an okay place to stay for one night if needed. People looking for a Sicilian holiday stay should look elsewhere, though.”

The local town San Piero Patti is a real gem, the beach at San Giorgio is only 25 minutes away, and the famed 'Da Luciana' is a short drive up the hill behind the agriturismo for more sensational food.
