“I'm a New Yorker living in Germany. With that said: Drove 40 minutes to get here and it was worth it. The sushi here is very tasty and the presentation is awesome. The service here was great, the people are very nice and attentive. I heard this place can be booked out, so I would suggest making a reservation before going. Luckily we made a reservation as when we arrived I didn't see any free tables other than our table. Basically great food and service.”

“What a great little place to enjoy the company of friends, a hot meal, and a wonderful glass of wine. We did that this past weekend and enjoyed every minute. I enjoyed the Pfälzer Teller which had all of my favorites and I think that I will have to try their steaks the next time. The only reason I didn’t give them a 5 across the board is that their vegetarian options are limited, but my wife did enjoy her meal. We all had a wonderful time.”

“Came here today on a rainy October 2022 afternoon with a friend and our four kids ages 6, 4, 3, and 2 years. I had called earlier in the afternoon to make a 14:30 reservation; the staff over the phone and in the restaurant during our meal spoke English wonderfully. We used Google Maps with this pin as our GPS destination - this will get you very close, but it unfortunately tells you you've arrived right at the sharp turn of the nameless preceding road right near the Naturdenkmal Blitzohren. From there, you have to continue driving and then make your next right (where there are signs pointing to "Battenberg Burg") which leads you directly to the castle through some vineyards. We parked directly in front of the castle and walked through the main entrance into the "courtyard" and found the restaurant immediately on the left. The wooden door into the restaurant that is the main entrance wasn't marked and we both walked by it (even arriving separately) before we realized that's where we had to go. The building for the restaurant is quite charming and has an elegant modern touch to an otherwise historic structure, both inside and out. The first floor is cozy with fur-style rugs and cushions on wooden chairs and stone walls, and the upstairs has seating but has a brighter, more open feel with small but clean bathrooms on that level. The food was phenomenal, if slightly expensive - we got 4 large glasses of wine (smaller glasses and bottles were both available), 3 soups, and a steak which totaled 90 euro, and we were also given bread. The service was acceptable, if slightly slow (surprising as it seemed not to be busy, but I believe there might be an event room, so hard to say if there was more going on we couldn't see, and business did pick up later in the afternoon in the main dining area). After our meal we walked around the courtyard, which was rather expansive with gardens and several large outdoor patio seating areas as well as a lookout point. Would be absolutely wonderful to visit on a summer day! Of note, I DID try to come during the summer but that "nameless" road leading to the village from L517 had been closed, and I couldn't find a way around, so perhaps just have a look at the map before coming in case that happens again. Overall, this is a fantastic restaurant, perhaps not exactly kid friendly but was a great experience for us, as were the castle grounds and the spielplatz right down the road that we visited after.”

“First of all - if you never did plan to go on a day-long wine tour through the beautiful Pfalz area in Southern Germany you should stop everything that you‘re doing right now and start your research on all the different vineyards. After visiting three wineries before lunch time we were excited to indulge in some french-mediterranean cuisine in the picturesque village of Großkarlbach. Not only was the service great throughout the whole time but the food and selection of wines was definitely Michelin Star worthy. And for just 39€ for the petit menu you get already more than you could ask for when going out for lunch. The creations of the kitchen were absolutely fabulous and tasty and our tastebuds exploded continuously because of the perfect made food. Make sure to stop by and indulge here - the fish courses were absolutely amazing!”

“Marvelous menu and food. Wine selection is extensive. Atmosphere is marvelous, if it's not raining, as the center are LA is open. Does not have afternoon closing. The sampler plate is recommended for new tourists, but it is large enough for two people. Small town, so most services seem to cater only to German tourists, not international tourists. Only cash and German credit cards are accepted here.”

“When in another restaurant they told us this place for sure will have empty tables we should have guess it would be not good. We ordered three different main dishes. The fish was not properly desalted, the beef was not tender and the pork (schnitzel) tasted very strange, like when you leave the meat out of refrigeration for very long long time. I decided to complain only for the pork because it was impossible to eat. In any restaurant they would have at least apologize. In this place the waiter instead came with a "sorry, we believe there is nothing wrong with this dish" and left us the menu to order something else and didn't return to take the order. So not only I was told to not have right about my taste of the food but also condemned to wait forever for a replacement. The waiter never came back to our table until order the check and I am still waiting for an apologize. Very rude and anyways the food in this place has not the standards of the region. I wouldn't recommend it and the 1 star I give is for the location with a nice open air tables and clean toilets”

“The overall experience from service to food was great. I had the lunch special while my SO had the Sushi plate. The savory foods were great and comparing them to similar dishes while living in Japan, they were very delicious. The four star rating comes from two sides, one is the cheesecake souffle not being as near as impressive as the food which left much to be desired. The green tea and coffee were also not what we were expecting, especially after the great food and wine. Overall, it is a great place to eat and the staff were great.”
