“We came here at 5 for the early dinner menu, after reading all the good reviews. Love that they let us have the monk fish which is on the set menu but not the a la carte menu. Food was average, pigeon breast was a bit overcooked, the seasonal vegetables were cooked in white wine - not quite sure the rationale behind this. The service was not what we expected. We had to ask for sharing plates, the used cutleries for starters were not taken, we were being finger pointed by another waitress.. It was not a pleasant eating experience for us.”

“Excellent vegetarian restaurant with very good and friendly service. (I'm omnivorous and not overly keen on vegetarian food). I really enjoyed this meal altho the strawberry ice cream with the roasted plums didn't really gel. Decaff coffee too milky for my taste do ask for an extra shot. Well worth revisiting!”

“Thank you for such a warm welcome when we visited your pub on New Year's Eve. We had our 2 dogs with us and we were all made to feel very welcome. Whilst sat in the cosy bar area the manager brought us some complimentary chips and dips which we really enjoyed. We wish all the staff a very Happy New Year and many thanks for a great night.”

“My partner & I dropped in without having booked a table, on a Saturday evening (we were visiting the area & was suggested to us by the hotel we stayed in. We didn't hold out much hope of getting a table due to not having prebooked & apparently being so popular. They were kind enough to offer us a table, if it wasn't going to be a drawn out social affair- the table was already booked by another party for a certain time - (we just wanted to eat & go after having such a long day walking so it worked out well). The table for 2 are only small - 2 plates & a couple of drinks & no room for anything else....luckily the table next us had finished so they dragged over a surplus table or else we would have been stacking plates on top of each other due to lack of space) we didn't order a main or dessert, we ordered 4 starters to share between the 2 of us. Chicken skewers, onion bhaji, calamari bites & cheesy salsa chips (those aren't the exact name of the dishes on the menu-but that's what they pretty much were & it does give a brief food description of what each dish is) The food was hot & well presented. Overall we enjoyed the food. The price is about what you would expect to pay anywhere...approx £7.00/£8.00 per starter For 4 starters & table water, our bill was £32.00 (odd pence) We were seated downstairs & the toilet is situated upstairs (something to consider if steps are a hindrance for you). The service was steady & the atmosphere / deco is kind of low lighting with a 'trendy moody edge' feel. On visiting Whitehaven, we noticed a lot of the eateries are pub food oriented. Compared to other towns we visit, there aren't many 'restaurants' so if you're looking for a 'romantic feel' restaurant we didn't find one...but our visit was only a 2 day visit. Parking is available around the vicinity but it is paid parking no matter the time of day.”

“Lovely restaurant Very attentive servers who are really polite and helpful. I had garlic bread and salt and pepper shrimp with aioli sauce for starters. Wow that sauce is amazeballs. The mains were meatballs with gnocchi. Tbh, it was well cooked but probably not my cup of tea. I felt the prices were decent. Some other guests in there were quite loud though but no fault of the restaurant.”

“If you are in the Lake District, this is a cafe you must visit. We came here years ago and the food and atmosphere was perfect. Now, these years later, nothing has changed, except that the couple that ran it retired and their daughter has taken over with her partner. Friday, Saturday and Thursday are the days that the cafe is open. This is the reason that we have taken so long to get back as it did not correspond with the times we were down. Having said that, we were here now, my partner and I. It was a delight just walking into the cafe a real treat. The atmosphere is informal, warm, welcoming and convivial. The host was charming and friendly. He informed us about what was on the menu and was very knowledgeable about the ingredients of the food being freshly made and served. We shared a halloumi starter. I wish we had gotten one each. Then I had a pasta dish. It was so good, the plate was scraped clean. We then finished off with a dessert. Mmmmm, so, so, good. I overheard other dinners commenting on how delicious the food was. I even heard one couple making a booking for the following night. I would definitely recommend an evening at the Jumble Room. I, for one, will certainly be returning.”

“As many other reviews have said, the service was personal and top class. Proper caring waiter - absolutely loved that. We had the three-course menu. We were planning on two-course but had room for a third and to add that on was only an extra £2! We had cauliflower soup and cod loin for starters, salmon tagliatelle (x 2) for mains and chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. £24 for 2 courses, £26 for 3.”
