The overall dining experience was top-notch, with attentive and well-timed service by Ben that added to the enjoyment of the meal. It's definitely a place worth dining at for a satisfying dining experience. Thank you Ben, chef and team.”

“I have been in Melbourne for about 20 years and have seen the Indian community grow from strength to strength. However there are odd ones out there that should be called out, hence the review. The place lives up to its name, as the owner/manager successfully treats its customers like ‘IDIOTS’ Though the place serves average quality and overpriced food, it expects its customers to have read and memorised a RULE BOOK of conditions that gets used against us ‘idiots’. For example, a polite request for a fresh plate in between entree and mains is met with a stern rebuke from a very inhospitable looking manager/owner who reminds us ‘idiots' to read the rule book that states that PLATES WILL NOT BE CHANGED! You are likely to face her wrath and dismissal if you make the mistake of giving feed back. Though you are expected to pay unadulterated top dollar for their "service/disservice", the experience they provided was adulterated with racism, unfair judgement and contempt! DO NOT GO if you are looking for a relaxed evening, particularly if you are brown skinned as you run the risk of leaving with a bitter taste and sore head & heart due to the impact of “rule book” that gets thrown at you!”

“Wow! Small place but an incredible find! Was lucky enough to call up for a table and they fit us in! The service is the best we’ve experienced in hospitality in a long long time! The staff / management / chefs went out of their way with a pizza order and truly made us feel special. Came right home to write this review. You don’t find both delicious food AND exceptional customer service in the same sentence these days. Thank you so much.”

“Loved the taste of the food, the wait staff were friendly, and the restaurant atmosphere was very much a vibe. My only critique would be the portions of the food was smaller than most sichuan places. Two mains between two people at other Sichuan restaurants would more than suffice, but we ended up getting three dishes and it still felt a tad short in quantity for the price. Otherwise, the food was delicious.👌”

“If you cannot think of anything rice at home, just head over to Curry Cafe Northcote and order coconut rice which I saw a couple of weeks back on specials board, butter chicken and mango lassi. Still feeling famished? Another round of coconut rice, ahloo pratha and a lick pier :). Simply the best. Coconut rice is the best for me. On a sunny and cool day, there are outdoor seats”

The beers were perfect with the tacos. Everything about the experience was amazing. Super friendly staff, and great music. We will definitely come back for more!”

“ORDERED: 🥮  House-made spiced cottage cheese: pickle, salmon roe, tart & burnt honey ($5.00 each) 🐟  Kingfish Umai: Fermented chilli, whipped cod roe, apple ponzu gel, rice cracker ($25.00) 🐏 Malay Lamb Shoulder: Kipfler potato, baby carrot, spiced raita ($28.00) 🐓 Satay Spiced Whole Chicken: Fermented garlic honey, tomato sambal ($38.00) 🍚 Small jasmine rice ($4.00) 🍈 Coconut Sago: Passionfruit syrup, lychee jelly, melon ($13.00) I spent $65.50 here. REVIEW: The entrees were mid at Jamu, but it was good at managing my expectations so that I was blown away by the mains. The dessert was a great way to finish and wrap up the meal. Good strat! My favourite dish was the Satay spiced whole chicken. It had a delicious smoky charcoal taste that really permeated the skin. Herby, slightly sweet - it was absolutely delicious. Chicken was juicy as well! Although, as with all chickens, when you get closer to the bone there was less flavour. Would've loved a little jus on the side to keep the flavour going, but otherwise the burnt lemon helped a little. Service was great. At the start, I appreciated how the waiter was mindful enough to move our table. Originally, our table of 2 was seated right next to a larger table of 10+. However, our waiter offered to move us behind the screen so that we could have a little more peace during our meal, and didn't have to fight with the neighbour table's noise (they weren't bad). Also thankful that the waitress talked us down from getting a large jasmine rice ($7.00). The small rice was perfect and enough for the mains we had. Big shout out to her proactiveness! Also grateful that they didn't charge a credit card surcharge. as well. 👍 👍 The reasons for the -1: 1. Want more salmon roe on the House-made spiced cottage cheese. It adds a unique salty flavour with a great texture, otherwise it tasted just of... cheese. I didn't taste the burnt honey, didn't taste the tart. 2. Would appreciate if they carved the chicken for us. I enjoyed the process of getting intimate with my chicken once off for a casual dinner, but for a nicer dinner this is a big no. 3. The coconut sago was far better when the melon had melted towards the end. It was missing that little bit of liquid, because the sago is a little dry and plain otherwise.”

32 Best St, Fitzroy North VIC 3068, Australia

“This is my favourite place in Melbourne. It is my go-to for interstate visitors to give them something to remember when they fly home. It is always consistently good. The food is often Italian and French inspired, but definitely not limited to. They’ve explored with dishes from around the world. It’s always delicious and the cook times are always perfect. The food is creatively complex and yet simple in what they serve up at times- genius. The pastas and sourdough are made in house. The flavours are always seasonal. The vibe of the place matches the food. Heidi is a great host and owner. The staff are all familiar faces who genuinely love to share the experience with you and treat you like family. Personal highlights - hand squeezed ‘gin and juice’ - the wine recommendations - the sourdough - Gorgonzola gnocchi / squid ink pasta - the steak sandwich (was a covid-temporary and missed fixture) - the fries - anything sardine related - the jazz band when Sunday dine-in lunches were a thing.”

“It was insanely loud, though I wonder if that’s owing to the byo policy! Service was pretty slow which may have been due to the industry staff shortages that are currently prevalent and one of our sharing pizzas never turned up but by the time the rest of our food did eventually appear we were satisfied enough without it. We had the garlic potato focaccia as an entree which was delicious and I had gnocchi pesto for main which was equally yummy. Food wise I certainly can’t complain everything was extremely tasty and the pricing was very reasonable. Love the open kitchen where you can see the chefs pumping out the pizzas also”

“First off the people are lovely, this is purely based on food and price. Based off other reviews I was expecting better. $17.50 finger plate arrives on a unnecessarily massive plate, undercooked dough, the feta, olives, sun dried tomatoes just looked like they were spooned and dumped on the plate from the containers. I took it to go because I can do something with the leftovers. $24 Marinara Pasta with no Marinara sauce, I was told that the sauce is to be requested then they will add it, (I’m assuming at extra cost). It was bland, undercooked pasta too Al dente, the prawns were cold and hard, whatever else was in the plate also tasted straight from a mix seafood tub. We added mass Parmesan just for flavour. I did not do a takeaway container and I hate waste however this was not great. $24 for 2 glasses of house white. Punt road Chardonnay is $20-$30 retail price depending where it’s sourced. So $12 per standard glass is steep. I was absolutely exhausted, so when looking at the menu the prices and the reviews I was expecting a lot better quality. Again though the staff were very accommodating however I just didn’t want to waste time or resources when I knew we weren’t going to eat more. This review is based purely on the food and price.”
