“A delicious lunch in Palermo. We had Pasta Alla Norma and another tomato based pasta which were both excellent. The salted ricotta on the Pasta Alla Norma was beautiful. We also really enjoyed the sardine meatballs. We don’t get fish based meatballs in Australia so it was a really nice change to try local sardines that way. The tomato sauce that the sardine meatballs were cooked in was also delicious. The team here were friendly, courteous and just really pleasant. A great spot for a meal”

Service was not great with very long waiting times for orders to be taken. They seemed understaffed so might have just been a bit unlucky. A nice experience but I wouldn’t say you’re missing out if you don’t make it here during your stay in Palermo.”

I understand there is a high demand and it is better to have it preprepared, but it would be much better if prepared in the spot. Seven people in our party and we all agreed it was the best meal we’ve had in our 12 days in Europe so far. Beyond that, the old fashioned’s were as good as any I’ve had in the US.”

“I have known the place for several years but only in the last year have I become a loyal customer. In fact, my boyfriend and I often go to this place to enjoy a rich, good quality aperitif, really plentiful and in fact we never manage to finish it all! At a cost of €15 per person (cover charge is also included) you can enjoy an excellent platter, accompanied by a drink of your choice between spritz, glass of wine, soft drink or mineral water. The aperitif includes an express first course (usually potato gnocchi), French fries, panelle and crocchè, fried pizzelle with pistachio pesto and mortadella, aubergine rolls, meatballs, mini potato gateau, sfincione, various cured meats and quests last time also a pan with potatoes and sausage... Truly irresistible! We like it a lot, it's plentiful and the food is very good. At Retrogusto you can also eat excellent pizza and hamburgers. Advised!”
