“I made a reservation for dinner, but I left after a lovely glass of wine, a rather ordinary starter, and a bad taste in my mouth. Here’s a quick tip for the staff of Ciamarras: when a guest orders a glass of wine off a menu which clearly lists the name of the wine and the price, it’s a good idea NOT to come back after five minutes and ask him while pointing to the menu: “This glass of wine is ___ euros — are you okay with that?” He might be led to think this has to do with something other than the price of the wine, which would be pretty awful. I’m just going to assume it was ignorance. I brought this up with the owner and he apologised, which was nice, but the buzzkill stayed. Oh well — I went elsewhere and got a good pizza.”

“Checchino is a treasure, not in the least bit hidden. It’s full of locals and tourists, in equal measure. To begin with the owners, now in their fifth and sixth generation operating thus osteria and restaurant, really do have hospitality in their blood. More than that, they have a pride in whey’ve build over 150 years and what they provide today. And you feel it every moment - from welcome to after dessert as you wobble out to your ride home. The menu is, itself, reflective of the neighborhood, including the nearby former slaughterhouse. Meat-focused, with lots of offal, with an incredible selection of wines developed and maintained by the super-knowledgeable owner, who’s also the sommelier. We let him sort out what we’d drink with dinner because the winemakers (and grapes) were often unfamiliar. Great call! The menu is full of classics, but you shouldn’t miss out on the head cheese and garafolato - good luck having either elsewhere, and hardly a chance of them prepared nearly as well. We ate at a lot of wonderful places all around Italy. Checchino is a very special one.”

“If you happen to be in Latina (a town South of Rome) you have to try them. The pizza is baked in a real wood fired oven and the steaks are made with 100% local beef. They accept reservations and can accommodate large groups.”

“Absolutely fantastic meat. Incredibly tender and succulent. 10/10. Polpetta was very fluffy and the sauce was great. Meat on a skewer was incredibly tasty. You don't even need to chew it, just melts in your mouth. 2 pieces of Steak were around 600 gr. and cost 20€ each. Also very very tender and taste delicious. Service was nice but our waiter bairly spoke English🙈 Anyway very recommended place.”

“Horrible experience. The place was overcrowded. It was almost impossible to go to the toilet without bumping into other guests. We ordered 2 medium rare cooked steaks. One of the steaks that we were served was overcooked and totally well done. After we complained about it, they said that we would get another one for free. A few minutes later we were told that we wouldnt get a new steak because there were not enough steaks for all the guests?!. Then we were told that we would get desserts for free instead. But at the same time that they will charge us also the steak that we refused and didn t eat. At the end they practically threw us out of the restaurant telling us that they want us to leave because they need our table for other guests?!. The desserts were awful. Tiramisu was very far away from what it should be in Italy. Above all only 1waiter knew english. Totally unfriendly and unprofessional behavior from the staff.”

“Genuine Italien place with good food. Unfortunately we got a waiter from the 70's who was totally uninterested of service and made us feel " not welcome". Pity... because the place was nice with live music and the kitchen was good. Actually it was the only place out of 14 restaurants we was disappointed in.”
