“This is an amazing steakhouse! It’s a beautiful space, the bar is hip, the food is excellent and the service is wonderful. We held a work event here and had a terrific time. The steaks and seafood were phenomenal, with every bite being better than the last. The pork belly and seafood platter with shrimp and oysters were a meal in themselves! and the octopus was divine. The mashed potato, creamed spinach and Brussels sprouts with bacon sides were amazing too. And don’t even get me started on the everything biscuits! The desserts were the perfect size after such an extravagant meal. Downstairs they have a private room and bar that is perfect for groups of 25 or so. LOVE LOVE LOVE!”

“July 2023: Enjoyed a delicious dinner before we saw a Broadway show. We were here for restaurant week where we got a prix fixe dinner for $60. Quite a good deal! I started out with a draft beer, Almost Famous, from Torch and Crown. 👍 For my starter, I had the sesame crusted tuna with crackers. This was tasty. For my main, I had the miso salmon on a bed of edamame 🫛 mash. The fish 🐠 was cooked perfectly. Got a nice sear on one side. For my dessert, I had the shortcake with lemon ice cream. This was a great way to end the meal! The restaurant is elegant. Service was very friendly and attentive. I would definitely come back again for more delicious food!”

“My wife and I had a single night in Manhattan recently. As we were staying on 5th Avenue, we decided to make reservations at The Grill as it was an easy walk. Upon entering, we found the staff welcoming and gracious. We were shown to our table in an expeditious manner. We asked to see the Sommelier as we wished to get our wine (2017 Margaux) breathing. Willie came to the table and was very helpful in getting the process started. He also recommended superb cocktails. John our dining Captain came and introduced himself. John is a pro. Terrific! My wife began with the Champagne cocktail. Delicious. I wanted an old fashioned and was talked into the version with The Grill’s signature bourbon. Oh my, was it good. We started with the Avacado Crab Louis prepared at our table. Off the charts delicious. So fresh and plentiful. We then moved into the next course, Pasta a la Presse, again prepared table side. This was the highlight of the evening’s menu. Everything was amazing but this was sinfully delicious. With our ribeye for two we had the mushrooms and steamed spinach. The steak was very good. Not the best that we have had but superb nonetheless. The bread service was equally amazing. My wife is a skilled baker but had to admit that the dinner rolls were better than hers. We finished with the baked Alaska table side…a must. The service was exceptional. We were ‘touched’ by no fewer than 6 associates. We never felt rushed and we took our time and paced ourselves. We plan to head back to Manhattan next Christmastime, we will definitely eat at The Grill again. Well done!”

“The BEST fine dining restaurant I have ever had in NewYork!!! I’m not joking, I come from another country, and I have been in NY for 4months, and I went to like 20 restaurants every months. Literally, me and my gf just randomly pick this restaurant and randomly select 3 main courses and some sides, since we are too busy to reserve a restaurant for Thanksgiving eve. IT IS SO SO GOOD, the service is perfect, the rythme of the dishes is perfect. Before I eat, I just think the 4.4 stars restaurant won’t be that great, and now I totally will give a five stars. And I recommend the NY steak and the lobster spaghetti!!!”

“We've been coming here since the early 1990's and it's one of the last archetypical New York "steakhouses". Live jazz, good food, East Village location, people who know your name, familiar (as in yummy) food, strong drinks, a solid wine list that's not ostentatious and John who can grant you a prime table on a Saturday night at 8pm. The old Gotham Bar and Grill is no longer, Ray's Pizza is long gone, Balducci's a distant memory, Dallas BBQ - who?, 1/5 Steakhouse, B Daltons, the Olive Tree Cafe, Figaro's and the Rocky Horror Picture Show during 8th Street's heyday as one of the most popular streets in NYC are pure nostalgia, but the Knickerbocker lives on in person, unchanged. Thank you John and Craig for the easy evening. Good food, good wine, good times here.”

“I finally had the pleasure of eating here and I was very satisfied. There is always a wait here, but it usually goes quickly. I waited about 20 minutes on a Friday. I sat at the bar and was greeted promptly by the bartender. I was started off with a field greens salad that had a light tart dressing and a strong flavor from fresh dill. The steak comes at 3 temperatures; rare, medium, or well. I went with the rare. The steak was cooked perfectly to rare and had wonderful taste. The bearnaise sauce was the beat I've had in a long time. Rich and smooth, on the thinner side as it should be. The fries were a perfect thin and crunchy shoe string style. The fries are unlimited, and I was asked if I wanted a refill, which I appreciated. Honestly, you're not going to beat the value. For what you're paying vs. the quality of food. I really feel like you win here. Highly recommended and will be back again.”

The food is high quality and the service was really good (for the most part). I noticed that in the beginning the service was slow as there were many tables being served. There was a gap between the starters and the mains (because they accidentally forgot to serve the crispy rice) As a form of gratitude, they did remove the crispy rice from the bill (which I highly appreciate) I would defiantly come back for my next visit 🔥💙”

But I finally got the chance too and it was amazing, Marco our waiter was very charming and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the white linen tablecloths the pictures and lights on the wall an Italian story was about to be told I was definitely I was ready to listen. The music was at the perfect level so I can actually have a conversation with my partner which I really loved. They was many choices on the menu to choose from, I decided on crab cake and it’s definitely a must have, everything we order was delicious! I also choose the pasta special which includes shrimp, mussels and scallops. I had an amazing dining experience, and I will definitely visit again..”

Salad heart of lettuce was fresh and well blended, little too much vinegar. Roasted cod was fresh but the bed of carrots and potatoes was not 100% amalgamated. Well dish was overall nice, ingredients were fresh. Nice side of Brussels sprouts. Nice twist of garlic there. Crème brûlée nice. Little pricey for one person over 80$ with no alcohol an no tips. Good experience for lunch.”
