“My colleague and me visit often Rotterdam port for work, last weekend we decided to change from the usual hotel and we took 2 rooms in a hotel in Brielle, without knowing the town or any restaurant. Well, we went to De Smaeck van Brielle and we were so enthusiastic about it after the first night that we decided to go back also another night. The place is very nice and quiet, personnel very helpful and kind and when you get to the food... you just love it. Very well presented, the cooking is perfect and the taste incredibly good. I will be back for sure.”

“This place is just an average cafe/bar in a nice historic building...there isnt really cooked food, unless you are Dutch & live on bitterballen and some other unidentified fried balls. Ambiance was for me the only positive thing for the rest pretty bad acoustic and lighting; we couldnt hear each other when talking, service is anything but polite or quick. I was invited here so I was curious to explore but wont repeat.”

“The place has a nice vibe even though it was quite busy. We had a reservation for brunch and the service was fast. The food came all at the same time, we were a group of four and all the dishes were very nice although not memorable. They have a wide selection of dishes and drinks. The juices and teas were nice as well. The price reflects the quality of the ingredients and the location. The stuff speaks English which was a great addition. All the dishes were very well presented. This is a good place to go with a group as the menu have enough options for different likes.”

“Lovely location at a quiet canal. Terrace deck outside on the water, industrial look with large wooden beams, large metal pipes, kombucha brewings, and cozy plants inside. You order a surprise menu of 3, 4, or 5 courses (vegetarian available as well), and you can choose a full glass or half glass of wine pairing. Food is organic, with lots of fermented food such as miso, edible flowers, and unusual combinations. Service was friendly and quick. I will be honest, but the food combinations we got that night were a bit unusual, with lots of acidic flavors, such as a green pickled strawberry, or fermented apple. I love some food microbiology, but the flavors of the amuse and starters were all a bit sour for my taste without a counter flavor like sweet or salty. The main dish, cod with a cabbage roll, however, was excellent, and so was the dessert. Another reason to take off a star: One of us ordered a sparkling water pairing, which turned out to be a single bottle. When we asked for two extra glasses, we were charged with three water pairings, which was a bit outrageous. All and all, it was quite a different experience than the usual restaurant selection, and if you are in organic and fermented foods and have some money to burn, this is your spot. But it might not be for everyone.”

“I tried both the cheese burger and spicy vegan burger, and they were both delightful. The patties were cooked to perfection, boasting excellent flavor. The thick-cut fries were a highlight, crispy on the outside and soft inside, complemented well by the mayo. Unfortunately, the onion rings were a letdown, with a predominant dough taste and excessive greasiness. For dessert, the black velvet cake is a must-try. Overall, it was a good experience, but I'd suggest opting for takeaways.”

We took the chef's special 4 course which was perfect in amount and variety. For those who don't eat meat there are a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. Finally, the bar is beautiful!”
