Quogue Wildlife Refuge
4.8
( 16 reviews )

3 Old Country Rd, Quogue, NY 11959, United States

“This is saved under one of my favorite escapes from the city. They have beautiful, easy trails that immerse you in nature. They also have animal rescues and rehabilitated animals as well - from owls, to falcons, to eagles, to possums and tortoises! In the visitor’s center, they have reptiles and insects! It’s a great place to clear your mind, do some light aerobic activity, or to educate your young kids. The place is maintained well and is clean. The staff are friendly and engaging. They offer so many free activities and programs. It’s never full any time I’ve gone either so I’m a bit weary to promote it because I want to keep it an IYKYK kind of gem, but a place like this that offers so much beauty and help for free should be shared. Please come and support them!”

Zoo New York

( 16 reviews )

1 Thompson Park, Watertown, NY 13601, United States

“My husband and I love visiting zoos when we are on vacation, so we had to come to this one on our way home. There were some cool interactive things to help kids learn and some nice exhibits, but overall, the value for the price was disappointing. Many of the exhibits were closed or empty. The butterfly house was locked and inaccessible. A lot of the animals were not visible. We did get to see a bald eagle and porcupine pretty close up which was cool. The grounds were clean and well maintained and the animals seemed to be well cared for.”

Fort Rickey Discovery Zoo
4.5
( 8 reviews )

5135 Rome-New London Rd, Rome, NY 13440, United States

“Affordable, educational, an all around Great family environment! Kids loved it and so did we. They really focused on fun for the whole family. We will definitely be back again!”

Cayuga Nature Center
4.5
( 8 reviews )

1420 Taughannock Blvd, Ithaca, NY 14850, United States

“What a cool place! The nature centre itself was closed, but enter through the gate on the side. Nature reserve with an incredible six- story tree house (which would have been perfectly terrifying at Halloween). To get to the tree house, walk by and past the animals behind the centre, and keep following the trail for a couple of minutes. It's very well hidden in the trees. Incredible how they made it - well done to the construction team!! So fun with options to climb up ladders or take stairs at each level. The animals seemed well cared for, there was an owl, two red foxes, Turkey vulture, etc. Great place for a picnic or walk through the forest. Loads of cute chipmunks scurrying around! (Apologies for any motion sickness watching the hand held video - it shows from the top climbing down to the entrance of the tree house)”
